The Mother Load

September 19, 2014–March 30, 2015

The Mother Load is an ongoing collaborative project launched by Lesli Robertson and Natalie Macellaio that engages with women who lead the creative life of an artist while being a mother. Documenting the words and work of women from across the globe, this project explores the balance of nurturing your life and your art.  The installation that was on view at the DMA  included copper plates representing each of the Mother Load artists, with fingerprints from the artist and her child(ren) on one side and QR codes leading directly to that artist's website on the other side.  One component of the exhibition invited visitors to participate on-site by responding to the question “In your life right now, what do you nurture, and why?”
