Spring Break Week at the DMA
See, hear, smell, taste, touch—our five senses tell us so much! Discover art that challenges your senses at this fun-filled week of art making, guided tours, story times, and gallery activities for families, all inspired by works of art in the DMA’s collection.
Spring Break programs are FREE and held daily March 17–20.
11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Center for Creative Connections (C3)
Find inspiration in works of art from the DMA’s collection that focus on the migration of people, objects, and ideas in art across times and culture. Drop by to design your own Tree of Life, try our packing challenge, combine and design your own ceramic pitcher, or sketch a work of art in the gallery.
Family Gallery Guides
11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Family Fun Cart, Level 1 near the main Visitor Services Desk
Pick up a guide and learn about selected works of art in the DMA’s collection.
11:30 a.m.–noon, Meet at the main Guest Services Desk
Two Story Times available (one in English, one in Spanish), each limited to the first 30 participants. Pick up your free ticket at the main Guest Services Desk at 11:20 a.m.
Traverse faraway lands and meet new characters as you discover just how far your five splendid senses can take you! Story Time is led by Education staff members in the Museum galleries.
Pop-Up Art Spot
Noon–2:00 p.m., Level 3
Visit the Pop-Up Art Spot for creative writing, playing, and sketching activities inspired by nearby works of art.
Ready, Sense, Go!
1:00–4:00 p.m., Art Studio 1, C3
Drop by the studio and work with family and friends to make sense of the world around you. Use watercolor pencils, brushes, and paper to create your own imaginary world, and then help us convert the back wall of our studio into a colorful collage.
1:00–4:00 p.m., Art Studio 2, C3
Scratch and sniff your way through the studio as you find new and fun ways to explore your senses. Find surprises in a sensory bin, squish fluffy cloud dough, shake a mystery egg, and more in our sensory wonderland.
Sense-ational Art Family Tour
2:00–2:30 p.m., Meet at the main Guest Services Desk
Two tours available (one in English, one in Spanish), each limited to the first 30 participants. Pick up your free ticket at the main Guest Services Desk at 1:50 p.m.
