Medellín Late Night
Location: DMA Boardroom on Level M2
and Medellín Exhibition
As part of Late Night: Celebrating Octavio Medellín, 2022 Texas Poet Laureate Lupe Mendez will lead a FREE bilingual Spanish–language poetry workshop inspired by the DMA’s exhibition Octavio Medellín: Spirit and Form. Writer, educator, and activist Lupe Mendez is the author of the poetry collection Why I Am Like Tequila, winner of the 2019 John A. Robertson Award for Best First Book of Poetry from the Texas Institute of Letters.
Octavio Medellín was an influential Mexican American artist and teacher who helped shape the Texas art scene for seven decades. The first-ever museum retrospective for Medellín explores the evolution of his sculptural practice, his public art commissions, and his legacy as a beloved and respected teacher.
FREE event for Late Night ticket holders; space is limited to 40 participants.
The Dallas Museum of Art is supported, in part, by the generosity of DMA Members and donors, the citizens of Dallas through the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, and the Texas Commission on the Arts.
