To our community,
Over the last few weeks, we have spent a great deal of time reflecting on and assessing the circumstances surrounding the break-in at the Museum on June 1. This experience has prompted us to further review and assess our security measures and facilities in an effort to better deter and mitigate similar situations moving forward. We take very seriously the duty we have to our patrons, supporters, and the city of Dallas at large to be responsible stewards of the invaluable art in our care. As the community’s museum, we also believe in continued transparency and due diligence as we move forward from this unfortunate event together.
Thanks to the strong, collaborative leadership from our Board of Trustees and Director Agustín Arteaga, we are moving forward to hire a third-party security consultant to ensure our security measures exceed best practice standards. This review is in addition to a broader ongoing assessment of our systems and facilities to inform a plan for the future of our Museum. We look forward to working in partnership with the City of Dallas to ensure we continue to serve our community in the best way possible.
We would like to offer our sincere gratitude to the abundance of community members, colleagues, peers, fellow museums, and DMA supporters here in Dallas and around the world who have reached out to express their support in wake of this tragic event. From the Dallas Arts District to the American Alliance of Museums and the Association of Art Museum Directors, your words of support and solidarity are truly appreciated.
Through it all, our doors have remained open, and we reiterate our commitment to fulfill our mission of being a space of wonder and discovery where art comes alive. We look forward to your next visit.
