Dallas Museum of Art Announces Lineup for 2010’s Chase Presents Jazz Under the Stars

Free Outdoor Concert Series Begins 27th Season on May 20

Dallas, TX—April 13, 2010— The Dallas Museum of Art announces a sizzling new lineup for the 27th annual series of free outdoor concerts – Chase Presents Jazz Under the Stars. The 2010 series hosts a diverse schedule of performances from Latin jazz fusion and percussionists to mainstream jazz. The extremely popular concerts attract as many as 7,000 listeners to the Dallas Arts District each Thursday night, and this is the fourteenth year Chase has sponsored the jazz series.

The free outdoor concerts begin Thursday, May 20, continuing on consecutive Thursdays through June 24, on the Museum’s Ross Avenue Plaza. Bring a picnic and blanket or purchase food and beverages on-site before the music starts at 8 p.m. This year’s schedule includes:

May 20: Danilo Pérez
Kick off the 2010 season of Jazz Under the Stars with the Danilo Pérez. Known for his distinctive blend of Pan-American jazz, Grammy Award–winner Danilo Pérez is among the most influential and dynamic musicians of our time.

May 27: Margo Reymundo
Margo Reymundo blends Latin jazz and R&B and has shared the stage with such jazz greats as Roy Hargrove, James Clay, Earl Harvin, and Shelly Carroll.

June 3: The Stockton Helbing Quintet
Drummer, composer, and producer Stockton Helbing performs modern jazz with his quintet.

June 10: The Shelley CarrollBrad Leali Big Band featuring Sandra Kaye
Two saxophone legends, Shelley Carroll and Brad Leali, along with one of Dallas’s premier jazz divas, Sandra Kaye, lead this big band for a performance of classic and original compositions.            

June 17: Clint Strong
Clint Strong is considered by many to be one of the best of a new generation of jazz guitarist. He has performed and recorded with Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Red Garland, and fellow guitarists such as Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis.

June 24: Mario Cruz
Tenor saxophonist and Texas native Mario Cruz has a unique and eclectic style. He has toured with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Dave Edmunds, Natalie Cole, and blues artist Willie Deville.

In addition to the annual six-week outdoor jazz series, the Dallas Museum of Art presents even more live sounds with Jazz in the Atrium, featuring some of Dallas’s most talented musicians, every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hamon Atrium. Jazz in the Atrium concerts continue throughout the year as part of the DMA’s Thursday Night Live activities, which also include numerous family friendly events with the price of general admission. Visitors are welcomed to enjoy the museum until 9pm on Thursday evenings with general admission fees of $10 and under.

Jazz concerts are one of hundreds of programs and experiences offered by the Dallas Museum of Art. The Museum remains open until midnight every third Friday with Late Nights at the Dallas Museum of Art, featuring a full spectrum of programs including musical performances, gallery tours, family programs, films and other dynamic events.
