Performances Inspired by Juan Gris

Ottmar Liebert: Guitar and Pipe

With millions of albums sold and five Grammy nominations, guitarist Ottmar Liebert is a household name with his own distinctive style that mixes Spanish, Mexican, and World elements. One of the most successful instrumental artists of the past decades, Liebert, born in Cologne, Germany, has released 33 albums with his band Luna Negra.

This original song and video piece, commissioned for the Juan Gris exhibition, incorporates Liebert’s signature style and reflects his training and background in visual art and photography. Guitar and Pipe is inspired by the Juan Gris painting of the same name.

Quarantined Quartet:
Homage to Juan Gris

Professional guitarist couple, Jason and Elysa Hochman, who live in Brooklyn with their two children, had to alter their lives, as we all did, during the pandemic. The New York Guitar Academy, which they founded and teach from, went online as the family switched to working and schooling from home. Thus began their new incarnation, The Quarantined Quartet, which burst forth from a tiny Instagram following to a viral media sensation, appearing on Good Morning America, among many other outlets. Jason, an Argentine-American and Elysa, of Mediterranean background, create both original compositions and arrangements of Spanish Classical and Nuevo Flamenco guitar.

This concert, titled Homage to Juan Gris, was commissioned for the Juan Gris exhibition and includes new arrangements of their popular compositions performed with their children Joseph, 11, and Noah, 9.
