Family Festival

Saturday, April 2, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Celebrate the power of creativity and all the ways we "MAKE" in this fun-filled day of free activities for the entire family. Enjoy outdoor yoga, art making, live music and dance performances, and have the chance to meet and make alongside local artists!

Please note: Due to the ongoing pandemic, the DMA will continue to follow COVID-19 health and safety protocols and policies, including social distancing requirements and capacity limitations. Some activities will have limited capacity and will function on a first come, first served basis.

Welcome Table and Raffle

Pick up a schedule of events and then tell us what you enjoyed about the festival in order to enter our raffle for goodies from the DMA Store!

Meet and Make with an Artist: Brenda Ciardiello
11:00 a.m.4:00 p.m., outside Main Entrance
Work alongside local artist Brenda Ciardiello to create your own colorful Texas wildflowers and cacti, and then add them to our community garden. Watch the garden grow organically before your eyes as we celebrate native Texas plants!

First3Years Sand Zone

Join our early learning experts, First3Years, for a playful and interactive sand zone.  

Meet and Make with an Artist: Michelle Reyes
11:00 a.m.1:00 p.m., Art Studio 2, Center for Creative Connections (C3)
Paint and print alongside local artist Michelle Reyes. Learn more about the screen-printing process, and then create your own special edition print inspired by the DMA.

Need a place to take a break? Drop in anytime throughout the festival to relax and explore quiet activities. All ages are welcome!

Family Tour: Choose Your Own Adventure
11:30 a.m. Meet at the Main Visitor Services Desk
Go on a whirlwind adventure through the Museum galleries and explore the many ways artists around the world MAKE and CREATE on this interactive tour of the DMA’s collection led by Education staff. Tours are limited to 10 people or less and must consist of family or friend groups.

Yoga with Stefanie Tovar

Start your morning off on the right foot! Join Stefanie Tovar for some relaxing and fun beginner-friendly yoga. Yoga mats and wipes are provided.

Semillitas Story Time with Ofelia Faz–Garza
11:30 a.m.noon, C3 Theater
Cozy up with a good book at a pop-up reading nook created by the Semillitas Book Club and enjoy story time with local artist Ofelia Faz–Garza. Then make your own handmade coloring book zine to take home!

Open Studio: Styrofoam Stamping
Noon–4:00 p.m., Art Studio 1, Center for Creative Connections (C3)
Be inspired by works of art that explore the relationship between people and nature in the exhibition 
Rooted in the Center for Creative Connections, and then head to Studio 1 to create and print your own stamp of a place that is special to you.

Looking for a hands-on experience in the DMA galleries? Visit the Pop-Up Art Spot to look closely at nearby works of art through speed sketching and discover what it would be like to become a work of art.

Celebrate the many cultures of America with master storyteller Toni Simmons. Enjoy folktales, songs, and rhythms, and become a part of the performance as she weaves her storytelling magic!

Join us for a variety show featuring singing and dancing performed by professional teens from local performance group Rebel Theatrics.

Artist Demonstration: Screen Printing T–Shirts

Watch the screen–printing process in action! Take home a memory of your time at the Family Festival with a T–shirt featuring a special design by local artist Michelle Reyes. T–shirt sizes and quantities are limited. Two T–shirts per family.
